What is it all about? 🤷🏽
To start receiving tips, all you have to do is to register on TipIn app, what will take you no longer than 5 minutes to do. Then you will instantly receive a unique QR code that directs customers to your TipIn Account Page. All that is left to do, simply to provide your customers with a printed version of the QR code with a prompt and explanation on how it works. Then they can tip by pointing the camera on their phone at the QR code & clicking the link that pops up. Or even more fancy, they can simply tap their phone on one of the TipIn NFC cards, and the link will pop up automatically. A bit of simple magic here.
Which payment methods can customers use? 💸
To leave tips with TipIn customers can you use all the major card providers ... and of course, we do support Apple Pay / Google Pay to make everyone's life a bit easier.
How much do TipIn customers get charged? 🤔
Our objective is for TipIn to be entirely free for our users.

When someone pays by card, there are fees related to the processing of each transaction, which are particularly unfair for the microtransactions (up to £5). To cover the costs of payment processing and running the service we have to take a small fee of 5% (i.e. 10p of a £2 tip)

However, our system is set up so that when the customer is tipping you, it will offer them the chance to cover these costs on their behalf. When they do, TipIn is completely free for our users.

So far over 96% of tippers do this, so tipped workers get 100% of the tip with no deductions at all!

What can I use TipIn for? 👀
You can only use TipIn to collect money that is freely given to you. You can't use it to collect money in exchange for goods or services (i.e. selling something online).
Do I have to pay tax from collected tips? 💰
Tips from TipIn work just like cash tips, as it is money you have received directly as a tip without an employer's involvement. In the UK, tips are taxable, unfortunately ... therefore, this money should be counted towards the tax you pay on your pay-slip.

To find out more, ask your employer, or you can see the official guidance from the UK HRMC here.

Do the customers have access to my information? 🔐
The customer will have no access to your private information, and it will be secured on our database, which uses the same levels of security as most banks and financial institutions.
